Michal B. Ron is an art historian and theorist. She earned her Ph.D. from Freie Universität Berlin with a dissertation titled “Arriving late to Marcel Broodthaers, or History in the Room of the Parrot.” Her dissertation examines historical appropriations, animals, and children in Broodthaers’ work and posits that, as modes of temporality, they convey a critique of history. Drawing on current temporal ruptures and crises of time, she further develops her focus on temporality in contemporary artistic practices and theoretical thinking. The historical, political, social, and technological conditions under which a temporal tendency emerges in art may exhibit repetitions; the differences may mark the specificity of a situatedness. Instead of asking “Since when?”, Ron asks: “In what time are we (now)?” (Again?)
Michal B. Ron has given lectures at venues including M HKA Antwerp, K21 Düsseldorf, and Hunter College, New York. Her reviews and essays on contemporary art have been published in the trilingual TOHU Magazine (Hebrew, Arabic, English), Counter-Signals, and Protocols, as well as in institutional and independent publications in Europe, the Middle East, and Indonesia. Since 2022, she has been teaching at the Institute for Theory at the HGB, Leipzig.
