Dear ____________________________,____/100
I would like to ask you, as a professional in the field of art, a question.
(trigger warning for people with a broken heart: the following may provoke an emotional reaction):
What do you do for love?
I would like to ask you this question, intimately. It may lead to different directions.
Personal? Public? Let’s tackle it down:
Toward which ends love motivates you?
What do you do for the promotion of love?
What can you do to enhance love in the world?
How can art relate to love?
In 1969, James Lee Byars was collecting questions from the 100 most brilliant people in the world for the World Question Center. In a performance at Wide White Space gallery in Antwerp, Marcel Broodthaers contributed a question: “In a world of mechanisms, a world of wars, a world of technology […] in this condition of this strange world – What to do to make love?” [sic]
On M.B.’s Memorial Birthday, 28.1.(1924-1976), for his 99’th birthday, I would like to address 100 people from the art world with a question, which echoes his:
In a world of mechanisms, a world of wars, a world of technology, in this condition of this strange world in which we live – What do you do for love?
Have you noticed: In German, EM-BE rhymes with Lie-be.
With warm regards,
Michal B. Ron
